Paris and London in the ’50s

These two paintings made in Paris in 1954 are also strange. I remember the occasion. I had visited the Jardin des Plantes (Zoo) where a giant turtle floated upright in a tank of water which was several meters high. The experience of this creature which faced me was an emotional shock. It was like meeting another human but in disguise, or an angelic figure. This encounter was the origin of the paintings. Emotion clearly plays an important role in art, either caused from something seen or a memory.
